The retail and entertainment landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, and the American Dream complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, is at the forefront of this revolution. JMA Wireless has announced the deployment of a private LTE network using 3.5 GHz Citizen Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum for this deployment.

This innovative implementation focuses on enhancing outdoor spaces with comprehensive traffic management, parking, and wayfinding information systems. What sets this deployment apart is its use of private and dedicated-use spectrum, allowing critical guest experience systems to operate independently from public Wi-Fi and cellular networks.

JMA Wireless, in collaboration with its partner Advanced Network Services LLC (ANS), is leveraging its commercial carrier and private wireless technology to empower guests and tenants with connectivity both inside and outside the complex. The infrastructure creates a high-capacity, multi-service shared wireless network.

One of the most exciting aspects of this deployment is that it represents one of the nation’s first FCC-authorized commercial uses of the newly-available shared CBRS spectrum. The network provides a flexible and easily adaptable platform as the complex’s needs evolve.

Jeff Sheckter, COO of American Dream, emphasized the importance of this technology, stating, “JMA and ANS helped us realize the potential of owning and deploying our own private network with all the security and control we desired with dedicated spectrum.”

The benefits of this private LTE network extend beyond just improved connectivity. Kevin Gallagher, EVP of Neutral & Private Networks at JMA, highlighted the economic advantages: “IT infrastructure is faster and more economical than using fixed infrastructure. They now have the control and predictability needed to run operations free from the limitations, cost, and complexity of wired connectivity.”

This deployment also showcases the power of collaboration within the tech industry. ANS provided crucial services in selecting, installing, integrating, and operating the OnGo service. Additionally, several device partners contributed to the complete private, connected solution:

Federated Wireless as the Spectrum Access System (SAS) controller

Geoverse’s Enhanced Packet Core (EPC) private LTE core service platform

Cradlepoint’s NetCloud Service and gigabit-class LTE edge router with CBRS support

Paul Fettuccia, President & General Manager of ANS, summed up the significance of this project: “This is an ideal demonstration of the versatility and value offered by Private LTE connectivity over the CBRS Spectrum. It demonstrates the potential for businesses to reach customers in new ways that successfully blend physical and digital worlds.”

As the American Dream complex anticipates welcoming 40 million visitors annually to its over 450 shops, services, and amenities, this private LTE network will play a crucial role in shaping the future of retail and entertainment experiences.
