Port of Barcelona Gaining Private 5G Network

Spain private lte and 5g

With the opening ceremonies of the 2024 America’s Cup scheduled for August 2024 in Spain, the Port of Barcelona is upgrading its wireless network capabilities with a private 5G network deployed by Orange.  Lluis Salvado, the president of the Port of Barcelona, says the project will have a “high impact” on businesses operating at the site.

The low latency of the 5G SA network is expected to play a major part in increasing operational efficiency, and the increased number of visitors expected to the site for the race will benefit from the new network.

Salvado says that the new network will serve “1,300 hectares [3,212 acres] of land surface, the sheet of water two nautical miles outside our shelters, and 500 companies that raise the blind in this space every day,”
