Nokia and Kyndryl Deliver Multiple Private LTE Networks to CPChem

Oil and gas Private LTE and 5G

Vertical: Manufacturing

Application: improved coverage, higher capacity

Ecosystem:  Nokia, Kyndryl

Private Network: LTE, CBRS

Oil and gas giant Chevron Phillips Chemical Company (CPChem) has deployed eight private LTE networks across its plants in collaboration with IT infrastructure services provider Kyndryl and telecom equipment maker Nokia. The private wireless network aims to improve operational efficiency and safety at CPChem’s facilities. The multi-year project involves building dedicated LTE networks that operate using Nokia’s Digital Automation Cloud platform in the CBRS shared spectrum.

The networks aim to connect CPChem’s workers with “quick access to mission-critical business applications across 3,000 mobile devices” via high-speed wireless connectivity. Nokia is providing the core LTE technology and edge computing capabilities for ultra-low latency. Kyndryl is handling the systems integration and managed services.

CPChem highlighted benefits like automation, mobility, and asset tracking from adopting private LTE. The dedicated networks offer reliable coverage, faster speeds, and lower latency compared to public networks or Wi-Fi.

The deal furthers the partnership between Kyndryl and Nokia on private wireless projects for industrial companies, having previously deployed 18 private networks on three continents

“By layering on other technologies like edge computing, IoT and augmented applications, the private LTE/5G networks will add next-level automation, enhanced worker safety and efficiencies into business-critical operations,” said Paul Savill, Kyndryl’s global practice lead for networking and edge compute.
