Network Slices for Norway’s Military and Prioritization in Times of Disasters

Military

Vertical: Military

Application: Autonomous edge in case of disaster and more

Ecosystem:  Telenor with 23 partners (operators, vendors, academics, SMEs) including Cisco and Palo Networks, and the European 5G-VINNI consortium

Private Network: 5G SA/non-Standalone SA/Network slice

Telenor chose Nokia to implement, manage and orchestrate the network functions virtualized infrastructure (NFVI) in a multi-vendor environment at its facility. In addition to its digital management and orchestration platform, Nokia is providing all the primary components needed to design, deploy, modify, monitor, and decommission sliced-based network services. It also includes the orchestration of services across a distributed Cloud involving Edge and Central sites.

The use cases include security with full isolation of the slice, voice, and push-to-talk and heavy end-to-end encryption using keys that can only be read by the recipients, high priority in time of disaster and war, autonomous mobile edge, and satellite communications for redundancy.
