Ligga Deploys Private 5G at UniSantaCruz

Curitiba Brazil Private LTE and 5G

Vertical: Education

Application: AR, facial scanning, IoT

Ecosystem:  Ligga, Databahn Solutions

Private Network: 5G

The Centro Universitário Santa Cruz (UniSantaCruz), a university located in Curitiba, Brazil, has partnered with Brazilian telecommunications company Ligga Telecom to deploy a private 5G network on the university’s campus. This private 5G network will provide high-speed connectivity and enable new educational applications leveraging 5G technology across UniSantaCruz. The UniSantaCruz-Ligga collaboration represents the first implementation of a private 5G network at a Brazilian university. Ligga Telecom will provide and manage the new infrastructure being installed exclusively for UniSantaCruz. The private 5G network promises to enhance research projects and curriculum for UniSantaCruz students and faculty through innovative use cases taking advantage of 5G capabilities.

“The 5G lab will offer students a unique opportunity to interact with emerging technologies such as virtual reality, internet of things (IoT), and advanced automation driven by the 5G network,” said the rector of UniSantaCruz, Roger Bicalho.

The network will launch in January 2024 and is expected to benefit more than 18,000 students and teachers at the educational center.

The private 5G network will provide students and professors at UniSantaCruz with cutting-edge technology to enrich teaching and learning at the university. Augmented reality glasses leveraging 5G capabilities will enable detailed anatomical evaluations in healthcare courses. 360-degree cameras will be installed in studios for distance learning classes to create more immersive and interactive environments for remote students.

Additionally, facial recognition integrated with the 5G infrastructure will automate access control across campus turnstiles. Class attendance registration will also be automated through 5G-enabled check-in. Interactive totem stations connected through the 5G network will be capable of instantly issuing student documents on-demand, such as bulletins, class schedules, and more.

“With the 5G private network solution, we enable the creation of an ecosystem conducive to fostering innovation, in which education and technology go hand in hand,” said Ligga’s CRO, Rafael Marquez.
