Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) in Jamaica is working with Nokia and EGC International to deploy its first private wireless networks at a Caribbean port. KFTL is a contemporary transshipment port that plays a pivotal role in catering to the logistical needs of Central America and the Caribbean, serving as a vital link for the key markets along the eastern coast of North and South America.
The solution will allow KFTL to enhance operations and efficiency at the port. The high-performance connectivity will support the rising logistics demands at shipping docks and yard sites. It will also allow for upgraded safety measures through improved information sharing and monitoring. The new technology is expected to strengthen productivity and workflow across KFTL’s facilities.
“We aim to go beyond our customers’ expectations in our service delivery. We are committed to continually improving our operations safely and keeping innovation as part of our DNA,” said Carlos Cabrera, Chief Operating Officer of KFTL.
Nokia is a major player in the deployment of private mobile networks around the world, helping companies in locations such as Latin America (Jacto Chooses Nokia for Brazilian 5G Smart Factory), Europe (Elevating Connectivity: Cellnex and Nokia’s 5G Deployment in Spain), and North America (Husky Terminal and Stevedoring Modernizes Port with Private Wireless).
Marcelo Entreconti, Director of Nokia Enterprise for Latin America said, “We are very pleased to collaborate with KFTL to increase its regional competitiveness. Nokia solutions are key enablers for terminal productivity, efficiency, and safety and security operational improvements. As the first private wireless network project in a Caribbean port, this deployment will benefit KFTL’s digitalization journey.”
“We are excited to join forces with Nokia to deliver a new era of connectivity at KFTL. Our commitment to innovation aligns perfectly with Nokia’s expertise for cutting-edge networking solutions. This partnership will empower the terminal with advanced technology, optimizing operations and ensuring seamless communication for all stakeholders,” said Victor Agnellini, CEO of EGC International.
