Vertical: Manufacturing
Application: Agricultural equipment
Private Network: 5G
John Deere, with 18 private networks in the US, Europe, and South America, is deploying a new private 5G network in Brazil, which will begin operations later this year. Their planter and harvest factory in Horizontina will operate at the 3.5 GHz band.
The factory currently has a connectivity ratio of 70% wired Ethernet and 30% Wi-Fi. The goal is to transform that to 80% cellular, 10% Ethernet, and 10% Wi-Fi over the next five years.
In 2019, John Deere initiated its Industry 4.0 journey by pursuing CBRS priority access licenses in regions of the United States where the company’s manufacturing operations are concentrated.
As additional spectrum becomes accessible, John Deere intends to expand the deployment of 4G and 5G private networks at its 70 manufacturing facilities and 70 logistics and parts locations around the globe.
