The Pyhäsalmi mine, a deep metal facility that goes down over 1400m below the surface. Formerly a copper and zinc mine, it is now being transformed into a test facility for Industry 4.0 applications, including mining, but others as well such as OEM manufacturers of vehicles and machines together with end users of battery-powered technology. Tests will include predictive maintenance, location services, 3D modeling, advanced analytics, and mining automation. The Callio project is jointly run by the town of Pyhäjärvi and the University of Oulu, with Nokia and Cellnex-owned Edzcom providing infrastructure.

The new private 5G network will operate over seven miles across eight underground levels.
