Purdue University Creates an Environment for Rapid Commercialization of Innovative 5G Services

Smart city

Vertical: Higher education/smart city/Purdue Research Foundation (PRF)

Application: R&D, community services, and smart city applications

Ecosystem:  Celona

Private Network: Unlicensed Spectrum with 5G LAN

The deployment at PRF by Celona will support research and development in smart manufacturing and agriculture, autonomous transportation, virtual and augmented reality. Additionally, it will serve the community with telehealth and remote learning. Finally, it will be home to smart city applications, with sensor data and remote wireless cameras providing insights into parking capacity, security, and more.

The network spans the new Discovery Park District (DPD), a 400-acre, $1 billion smart city development that’s adjacent to the campus of Purdue University. The district houses several companies that develop innovative digital services. They will have their own private networks within  DPD’s CBRS network for operating testbed solutions for a range of 5G solutions in security and communications to transportation, logistics, and robotics. The private network environment provides a living lab environment to test prototypes before launch. Rapid feedback from these tests is expected to accelerate 5G innovation.
