Defense contractor Booz Allen has recently secured a major contract to develop private 5G network capabilities for the U.S. Navy across the Indo-Pacific region. The private 5G network will support the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as well as the Intermediate Maintenance Facility Detachment at Naval Base Guam, providing both mobile and fixed wireless access.

Booz Allen was named the prime contractor for building an open standards-based 5G testbed network. This network will support communication, logistics, maintenance, and secure operations for the Navy.

The initial contract award is valued at $10 million over two years.

The implementation of 5G promises to provide faster network speeds, ultra-low latency connectivity, and increased bandwidth for thousands of IoT systems and edge devices. For the military, it has the potential to accelerate decision-making and information sharing for commanders in the field.

“Booz Allen is excited to be chosen as a strategic partner and solution provider to help design, implement, test, and operate a private 5G network at the Naval Base Guam. The deployment of secure 5G capabilities in Guam is critical to national security and aligns with the Navy’s 5G strategy,” said Jandria Alexander, vice president and business leader for cybersecurity and cross-market technology innovation at Booz Allen.

Booz Allen continues to solidify itself as a leader in 5G adoption for both commercial and defense industry clients. This latest naval contract further expands the company’s support to strategic American interests in the Pacific region.
