Eurogate Terminals, a large shipping container operator, is deploying private 5G networks at three of its German ports in Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Wilhelmshaven. Using Deutsche Telekom’s technology, these campus networks will run at the 3.7-3.8 GHz band, frequencies set aside by the German Federal Network Agency for industrial use.

“The 5G coverage of Eurogate’s container terminals is one of our largest campus network projects to date. In addition to high-performance 5G connectivity and exclusive bandwidth, the network architecture of the three campus networks will offer a particularly high level of control over critical data traffic on the terminal site in the future,” said Hagen Rickmann, Telekom managing director in the Business Customers division.

The project is partly funded by the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport as a means of helping the logistics industry a means to improve operations and become more environmentally friendly.

The networks will operate over a total area of more than 5.6 million square meters at the three terminals.
