ADNOC and e& Partner to Build World’s Largest Private 5G Network in Energy Sector

Oil & gas industry Private LTE and 5G

Vertical: Oil & Gas

Application: Enhanced automation, connectivity, safety

Ecosystem:  e&

Private Network: 5G

The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced a partnership with telecommunications giant e& to construct the energy industry’s largest private 5G wireless network. This ambitious project, set to span 11,000 square kilometers, marks a significant leap forward in the digitalization of the oil and gas sector.

The network will provide comprehensive coverage across ADNOC’s onshore and offshore operations, creating a seamless digital ecosystem. With completion expected by 2025, this infrastructure promises to revolutionize ADNOC’s operational capabilities.

“This landmark project with e& is a milestone step in ADNOC’s journey to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company,” said Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of industry and advanced technology and ADNOC managing director and Group CEO.

The network will allow ADNO to use advanced AI integration in remote facilities, reduce costs through enhanced automation, streamline operations with real-time data processing, reduce emissions, and, with improved connectivity, enhance workers’ safety.

The project is projected to generate $1.5 billion in value during its first five years of operation, underlining its significant economic potential, with:

  • Sensor Integration: The network will process data from over 12,000 wells and pipelines.
  • Autonomous Control Rooms: AI-powered control centers will analyze data in real-time.
  • Asset Management: The system will provide recommendations to extend the lifespan of field assets and ensure operational safety.

“With connectivity being the backbone of technological advancements, we leverage our network and AI expertise to drive breakthroughs in the energy sector,” said Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Alzaabi, chairman of e&.
