The Players Championship, one of professional golf’s most prestigious events, took a major technological leap forward this year by deploying a private 5G network powered by Comcast Business, along with an upgraded Wi-Fi network. This cutting-edge networking solution offers blazing fast speeds, ultra-low latency, and enhanced security compared to traditional Wi-Fi or public cellular networks.
Comcast installed a dedicated on-site mobile edge computing setup to enable the private 5G network at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for the duration of the March tournament. This private wireless infrastructure provided connectivity for critical tournament operations and an enhanced digital experience for fans attending the event.
Comcast capitalized on its national mobility platform and dense fiber network to rapidly deploy the private 5G solution for this marquee golf championship. Private 5G networks operate on dedicated spectrum and infrastructure, offering greater performance, control, and security versus public cellular networks shared with consumer traffic.
